The detection of heavily mutated COVID-19 variant JN.1

23 - December - 2023

Trivitron Healthcare, a leading medical devices company, has successfully developed and commercialized an extensive range of diagnostic products, including VTM, RNA Extraction Kits, COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test Kits, and COVID-19 RT-PCR Test Kits. These innovations play a crucial role in enabling effective diagnosis of new variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the JN.1 strain as a "variant of interest," necessitating advanced diagnostic capabilities to identify and manage its impact.

Trivitron's dedicated Research and Development (R&D) team conducted an in-silico analysis of mutations within the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This rigorous examination ensures that Trivitron's COVID-19 testing kits, including COVIDSure, COVIDSure PRO, and COVIDSure Direct RT-PCR Kits, can effectively detect the mutated strain JN.1.

Trivitron Healthcare, affirms that these kits specifically target the conserved region of SARS-CoV-2, including ORF1ab, Envelope E-gene, and Nucleocapsid N-gene, with no compromise in detecting the JN.1 mutation.

Furthermore, the Trivitron BIOCARD Pro COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Kit, an immunochromatography-based test, offers qualitative detection of specific antigens to COVID-19 present in the human nasopharyngeal swab. Notably, this antigen test kit focuses on the conserved region of the N gene of SARS-CoV-2, ensuring reliable detection even in the presence of the JN.1 strain mutation.

Chandra Ganjoo, Group Chief Executive Officer of Trivitron Healthcare, expressed the company's commitment to providing cutting-edge technologies for disease screening and diagnosis. She emphasized the urgency of acting swiftly to curb the virus's propagation, underlining Trivitron's responsibility as a leading MedTech technology provider. Acknowledging India's historical role in global humanitarian efforts, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, she highlighted the importance of worldwide assistance. Trivitron's R&D team, scientists, and quality control department consistently verify the tests through continuous literature review and in-silico analysis of new circulating strains, ensuring effective and precise diagnosis for the masses.
