GASTROVIDEO

Gastrovideo is a specialized oral gastrointestinal contrast agent designed for use when traditional barium sulfate is unsuitable or dangerous. As an aqueous solution of diatrizoate sodium, it provides high-contrast visualization while remaining safe for patients with suspected structural compromises of the GI tract. Its flavored base ensures better patient compliance, making it a practical choice for emergency and surgical diagnostics where rapid, clear visualization of the stomach and intestines is required.

Overview

Overview

Gastrovideo (Diatrizoate Sodium USP) is available in two formulations: standard Gastrovideo (249.64 mg/ml iodine) and Gastrovideo L (149.66 mg/ml iodine). This water-soluble contrast medium is exclusively for oral or rectal use and must never be administered intravascularly. Its unique wetting agent and flavoring allow it to coat the GI tract effectively, providing diagnostic information equivalent to barium but with the added safety of being absorbable and non-irritating should a perforation occur.

Features

Key Features

  • Adequate Iodine strength – For MDCT oral administrations,Gastrovideo in 249 mg (Gastrovideo 41%), for CT applications and 149 mg(Gastrovideo L 25%) for MDCT for intestinal wall imaging, gives adequate iodine concentration for optimum images.
  • Flavored Aqueous Base:Formulated with flavoring and wetting agents to improve palatability and coating of the mucosal surfaces.
  • Absorbable & Safe:Unlike barium, if Gastrovideo leaks through a perforation, it is absorbed and does not cause granulomas or adhesions.
  • Multiple Presentations:Available in 30ml and 100ml bottles to suit different diagnostic requirements.

Clinical Applications

  • Threatened Perforation: The primary choice for patients with suspected peptic ulcers, diverticulum, or post-surgical leaks where barium is contraindicated.
  • Acute GI Conditions: Indicated for acute hemorrhage, partial/complete stenosis, and cases likely to require immediate surgery.
  • Post-Surgical Monitoring: Used after resection of the stomach or intestine to check for leaks or the integrity of an anastomosis.
  • Pre-Endoscopic Visualization: Helps in locating foreign bodies or tumors before performing an endoscopy or visualizing gastro-colic fistulas.
