Scans and other diagnostic tests are becoming prohibitively expensive because almost 85% of the equipment used is imported. The multi-crore diagnostics industry in India is dependent on imports, estimated to be worth 27,000 crore a year, while the medical technology product and devices market is valued at 35,000 crore.
