India records over 25 million births every year, yet only about 5–6 per cent of new-borns undergo any form of newborn screening. This means that more than 90% of babies born annually are not tested for conditions that can be detected and managed effectively in the earliest days of life. From an industry and health-system perspective, this is not merely a clinical concern but a structural gap in preventive care delivery. At a time when India is strengthening its position in healthcare, diagnostics, and digital health, such low coverage highlights a disconnect between available capability and population-level implementation.
